Nov. 6, 2004 Point to Point Access:  Wireless access points (APs or WAPs) are specially configured nodes on wireless local area networks (WLANs). Access points act as a central transmitter and receiver of WLAN radio signals.

Apr. 10, 2004 Peer-to-Peer Networking for the home - Peer-to-peer is a style of networking in which a group of computers communicate directly with each other, rather than through a central server. This is often used for multiplayer online games, such as Activision's Battlezone, to avoid the expense and delay of handling all that traffic at the server.

August 1, 2003 GPS (Global Positioning System) a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from a constellation of 24 satellites and ground stations used as reference points to calculate positions accurate to a matter of meters. GPS is used in cars, boats, planes and even laptop computers. Soon GPS will become almost as basic as the telephone.

USB Flash Drives - PINGTEC will be demonstrating their innovative USB products. USB-based flash storage devices are the smallest removable storage around. They're about the size and weight of a disposable lighter, but they can hold from 8MB to 1GB of data. They don't need a separate power supply or batteries, and they draw very little power from the USB port, making them ideal for laptops. They're also fast, sporting transfer rates of more than 1MB per second. And their dimensions and ease of use make them great for shuttling files between work and home, giving presentations, or swapping MP3s.

Mr. G. volunteered display the History of Atari Computers and will bring in his collection of 8-bit and 16-bit computers. Mr. G will also be displaying his CAD computer system developed by MarsGraphic

    August 10, 2002 OpenOffice - Lester Larkin will demonstrate OpenOffice software an affordable alternative in office productivity suites that runs on multiple operating systems, including the Solaris[ Operating Environment, Microsoft Windows, and Linux. The suite has a simple, easy-to-use interface and contains full-featured applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and graphics capabilities.

    July 13, 2002 No Meeting (Enjoy your summer!) For those with nothing to do, we are planning a field trip to visit the Mac group in Palatine. The Northwest of Us (TNWofU) meets on the same second Saturday as us so this will give us a good opportunity to visit another computer club. Their normal attendance is 150+ members.
    June 8, 2002 PC Clinic - Bring in your computer for spring cleaning and a tune-up. The gurus will blow it out, clean you keyboard and mouse. Upon request, the gurus will teak your OS, offers hints and tips to improve your performance, and offer general trouble-shooting along with some common questions with your Windows system.
